How to Enjoy

  2. How to Enjoy

Part 1

Enjoy the space and the flow of time

Architecture and a garden that have witnessed the flow of history

Since its construction in the late Edo period, the facade and garden remain almost unchanged. When relaxing in the lounge, you face the Japanese garden and can feel the craftsmanship of the building. In one corner of the garden, there is an umbrella stone lantern that survived the fires of Kyoto during the Onin War.

Part 2

Enjoy the cuisine

With the flavor of the 24 Japanese traditional seasons,
The conversation and the drinks flow

When dining at the counter, watch your food be prepared with explanations from the chef and enjoy talking about the 24 seasons of Kyoto, annual events and more.
In addition to Japanese sake, most of them made locally in Kyoto, we also have dozens of wines in our dedicated wine cellar, as well as beer, shochu, and whiskey.
Our dining services are available separate from the inn, so you are able to come enjoy the cuisine without staying at the inn. Enjoy the dining experience with friends, or for celebrations like engagement dinners, Buddhist memorial services or seasonal festival celebrations, for which we have dining halls and private rooms available.

Part 3

Enjoy the art

Works of art, festival dolls, seasonal decorations around the inn

At Izuyasu, we have inherited works of art, tea ceremony utensils and other cultural goods over seven generations, featuring the works of Jakuchu Ito, Chikkyo Ono, Konda Inaba and more.
In our deep value of the changing seasons, along with annual events and celebrations, around the inn we constantly change our displays and arrangements, including our Hina and May dolls which date back to the Edo period.

During your stay with us, make yourself at home, and enjoy the authentic seasonal decorations of Kyoto, just like those you see in homes around Kyoto.
Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can feel Kyoto’s traditions and daily life while staying at our inn, uncovering a rich new way to travel.

Part 4

Enjoy the connections

Enjoy the connections
People and Kyoto, the joy of slow connections

People and Kyoto, the joy of slow connections

In 2013, our space was renovated to include the library space we call “The Kyoto Bookshelf”. Here, while you enjoy the view of the garden, you can spend your spare time with a drink, chatting with other guests, or browsing our library. In our library we have books, music and photo collections gifted by our previous guests, like a stylish collection of hobbies and culture. At Izuyasu, just as things gather, so do culture and people, an inn of literati.
The 7th generation owner, a master of the tea ceremony himself, also hosts events from a wide variety of genres. With Kyoto locals also participating, you can make connections with people you wouldn’t typically have the chance to meet during a normal trip. We encourage the guests of our inn to freely enjoy and expand their world.
